We had a couple of border hoppers in our old hall. They lived in our territory but attended a different hall. But whenever they'd get peeved at that hall, they'd show up at ours for a while.

People who pioneer on government assistance
by ilikecheese ini had a chat with my boyfriend about this, and he said that he knows quite a few pioneers who are capable of working but prefer to pioneer with government assistance.
his thought was, "well, it's kind of bad, but at least they're doing something useful/good with their time.
" i know from reading this board that it's a pretty widespread thing.

A person who can pioneer can work a job, unless the pioneering consists 100% of telephone and letter witnessing and the person is confined to an iron lung machine. However, just because a person is capable of performing a job doesn't mean there is a job available for them to take. in some areas, disability payments are a substitute for long term unemployment insurance. I'd rather see people who can work do something productive, but that's not how the system is designed here in the US.

Why did god make Mosquitos, ticks, and leeches?
by Comatose inthey drink blood which he is against.. they are a nuisance and would be hell in paradise.
they just seem to be pests with no beneficial or redeeming characteristics.
no jw could give you a satisfactory answer to that.

There may be no apparant value or need for these creatures, but we are far from understanding all the complex interdependencies of nature. i find mosquitos particularly obnoxious though.

Elder left a calling card - what's with that?
by Julia Orwell inhe called me a week or two ago offering 'assistance' and told me he'd pop by some time with 'a packet of biscuits' and i told him to ring before he came so as not to show up unannounced.
we went out yesterday, and this morning i find a little business card-sized calling card obviously printed up on ms word and cut with scissors.
on it is printed, "sorry i missed you," and has his name and number, and the scripture from romans saying something about an interchange of encouragement.. pretty inoccuous right?

I am a government tax auditor. When I cannot contact a taxpayer i have been assigned to audit, I will sometimes drop by to see if I can make contact in person. If no one answers the door, I will leave my business card taped to the door with a note to call me immediately. i do it specifically to get their attention and get them to talk to me. This is the same thing - the elder really wants to pin you down and make you talk to him. the difference is that he has no legitimate authority to do so, and you are under no obligation to comply.

I agree Julia, planning vacations was the only thing that kept me going when I was a dub. Now that I'm free, I don't particulary care if I go anywhere. I can enjoy time off from work in my own home, sitting on the front porch drinking coffee in the morning and and messing around in the garden or the kitchen.

Did You Ever See Yourself Getting Out Of The JW Religion?
by minimus ineven though i realized there were different issues that i had, it took years for me to finally decide that i wanted out.
it took less than a year for me to slowly get out and i did that successfully along with my daughter and my then wife.
we all are still all happily out.. did you believe that you would be anything but a jehovah's witness?.

What is the best thing that ever happened in your life?
by creativespirit infor me it was meeting and marrying my current husband (who had once studied for the catholic priesthood).. the second best thing was having an affair during my first marriage (to the bethelite).
he said "oh, this is all wrong.
you have to get out of your marriage, and you have to get out of your religion.".

the best thing that ever happened to me was marrying just ron. every good thing that has happened to me since then has been a result of being with him.
